Guides and Codes
This cooperation had brought forward three European Guides which are published on the website of DG Health and Consumer protection. The European Guides are providing guidance to the operators in the area of feed safety and are a tool for the official controls performed by the National Authorities.
In addition EFIP members have developed EU harmonised feed safety management systems (Codes) based on the European Guides. They contain the requirements for a management system, prerequisite programs and hazard analysis, according to the state-of-the-art practices in risk management. In addition a third party certification system has been developed to make sure that the system will be uniform and consistently applied by the operators in the EU. The Codes can be used as a stand-alone document or integrated in a farm to fork chain approach.
The codes developed within the EFIP framework address the following segments in the feed chain:
- The specialty ingredients and their mixtures (feed additives, functional ingredients, premixtures and other mixtures of specialty ingredients) sector with FAMI-QS
- The collection, storage, trading and transport of cereals, oilseeds, protein crops and other plant products and their by- products with GTP
- The manufacturing of feed materials sector (vegetable oils and protein meal industry and the starch industry) with EFISC
